“MISSA AVE MARIS STELLA” is a musical enrichment for each congregation which is active in church music. This Ordinarium guarantees for the common work of all involved participants during the liturgical celebration (participatio actuosa).

“AVE MARIS STELLA” (GL 520) is a Latin Hymnus which is sung on the vespers in Marien feast days. It probably dates back to the eighth century.

“MISSA AVE MARIS STELLA” is written in Latin. The texts of the determined parts Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus – Benedictus and Agnus Dei blend with the old melody of the Hymnus “Ave maris stella“. You could say: „a song from the Holy Office (canonical hours) is used as a base for the liturgy of the Mass (Ordinary).“

The central topic of this Mass is Maria, Mother of the Church. The whole composition uses tone sequences, motives and melody parts of this Hymnus. They support through the liturgical celebration with choruses, responsories and organ solo which are fortified with many timbres.
